In some sense geotargeting is good, for instance Google uses it to make sure when you search for a plumber in Chicago, you don"t get a list of tradesman in Sydney. But unfortunately it seems it is more likely nowadays to block access. Most of the media sites block access outside specific countries, all the UK channels block access to outside the UK, US media sites like Hulu block people outside the USA.

Although it sounds quite complicated, geotargeting is not actually that advanced it merely involved looking your IP address when you connect and comparing it to a list of which countries each is assigned to. SO in practice when you connect to the BBC website, if you have a non-UK IP address then you"ll get blocked from accessing the content.
